BoF: Future of Sensor Handling
Session Summary:
A BoF for discussing sensor handling in MeeGo. Sensor framework is the component acting behind the scenes of QT-Mobility sensor API. Goal for this session is to gather and discuss ideas and suggestions on how sensor framework would best serve application and system development requirements. Interesting topics include adaptability, data flow properties, configurability, hot-pluggability, etc. Any fresh viewpoints and visions are highly appreciated.
Session Abstract:
Main goal is to find what community and stakeholders expect from sensor handling and future of sensor framework through open discussion. The discussion should create a basis for putting together some hopes and ideas for future directions for sensor framework development. The conclusions will be shared with the developers and community.
The following points can be used as a loose agenda, but content can be freely adjusted according to participants wishes.
Introduction
- Very brief history and how things currently work.
Adaptation and sensor detection
- How to make adapting the framework to new devices as easy as possible?
- How to detect available sensors? What about hot-pluggability?
Requirements by system and applications
- What type of information does the system require from sensors, and what limitations does this create?
- What are the requirements for sensor data from applications? Are there major differences between different types of applications?
