Building regional MeeGo community – case MeeGo Network Finland

Session Summary:
Regional MeeGo Networks have begun to emerge during the last months. Yet the forms, processes and guidelines concerning regional networks are still a bit vague and discussion about real world examples are missing. A great deal of current guidelines are based on our experiences. This presentation will show how regional MeeGo community in Finland (MNFI) has been built up; what kind of governing model we use; how regional and local level activity can be combined to enable diverse, open and active regional MeeGo community. In addition to that, presentation offers insights on organizing volunteer based regional Summit.
Session Abstract:

Finland has organized MeeGo activities under national umbrella, which has been labeled as MeeGo Network Finland and includes more than 250 members from all over Finland. Community building has been rapid, including organizing a 2-day developer and hacker oriented Summit and formation of several regional level teams. Finland has been clearing the path for others to follow and a great deal of guidelines related to organizing regional MeeGo activities are based on our experiences.

In this session we plan to go through the factors that have enabled establishing and building a diverse, open and active volunteer based MeeGo development community in Finland. Session aims to reveal what is needed to build a community which unites developers, hackers, users and local companies by creating a sense of regional fellowship and is capable of organizing regional MeeGo Summit.

Session discusses challenges, difficulties and successes encountered; reveals “do's and don'ts” from community manager's perspective, proposes a common set of guidelines for establishing regional communities and how to combine local MeeGo activities with regional level efforts.
