Qt Mobility APIs 1.1 and 1.2 overview

Session Summary:
The Qt Mobility program provides APIs to satisfy the mobile device specific use cases in a cross platform manner. The list of APIs has been growing fast in the last two years. In 1.1, there are Contacts, Document Gallery, Feedback, Location, Messaging, Multimedia, Organizer, Publish and Subscribe, Service Framework, Sensors, System Information and Versit. The latest release of 1.2 adds two new APIs for Bluetooth and NFC(Near Field Communication). The QML bindings added since the Qt Mobility 1.1 enable the developers to access the system functionalities more easily within the QML context. In terms of supported platforms, MeeGo.com is added to the tier one group since 1.2. This talk will cover a number of features available through 1.1 and 1.2.
Session Abstract:

The Qt Mobility program has stared in 2009 by a group of people in Qt Development Frameworks, Nokia. The objective of this program was to provide cross-platform APIs to access system functionalities required for the third party mobile application development. In the last two years, many features were released through one major, two minor and a number of patch releases. A highlight of 1.0 was ten new APIs on Symbian^1, Symbian^2 and Maemo. 1.1 adds nine more APIs and QML bindings. In the most recent release of 1.2, Bluetooth and NFC APIs are added and MeeGo.com became one of the tier one platforms. The API list includes Contacts, Document Gallery, Feedback, Location, Messaging, Multimedia, Organizer, Publish and Subscribe, Service Framework, Sensors, System Information, Versit, Bluetooth and NFC APIs. Recently we increased the focus on QML developer experience by finalizing QML binding in key APIs such as Maps and Navigation. As we originally envisioned, some APIs are moved to Qt where it makes sense and Bearer Management API is an example. This talk will be focused on sharing the hidden gems in the Mobility APIs and how to make the most of them in your applications. The future roadmap of Mobility will be also discussed aligned with Open Governance.
