State of the MeeGo Community

Session Summary:
The MeeGo Community is where the real work happens on the MeeGo project. Like any other open source project, we discuss changes on the mailing lists and forums, use the wiki for documentation, keep our code in the public repositories, report bugs, translate into other languages, hold events and much more. This session will talk about all of these community components, the people who participate in the community, our challenges and how you can get involved by contributing to MeeGo. All of this will be presented with numbers and data from the MeeGo metrics.
Session Abstract:

The MeeGo Community is a vibrant and active community made up of all of the people who collectively work on or with MeeGo:

  • Product contributors, kernel / distribution developers, release managers, quality assurance, localization, etc.
  • Application developers: writing applications to run on top of MeeGo.
  • Users: people who run MeeGo on their device and provide feedback.
  • Vendors: companies creating products based on MeeGo.
  • Other contributors: promoting MeeGo, moderation, documentation, and much more.

Data gathered in the monthly metrics will form the basis for this presentation with details about membership, mailing list posts, forum posts, wiki page edits, bugs, source code commits, IRC, active users and more. But this isn't just about the numbers - the numbers will be used to illustrate the key concepts described in the rest of this proposal.

I'll use the numbers as a basis to talk about all of the various ways to participate in the community and opportunities for anyone to get involved in MeeGo. I will also talk about some of the challenges we are facing in the community with a focus on how we can work together to overcome some of these challenges and make the MeeGo project even better.
