Why MeeGo TV is important to the community even if you do not work on TV
We will start by an introduction of the TV requirements and how the MeeGo TV project plans to cover these requirements.
The architecture of a TV product based on MeeGo will be analysed and the opportunities for reuse of existing MeeGo and general Open Source modules, as well as the requirement for new development will be highlighted.
A particular attention will be given to the modules which could be reused by other MeeGo verticals such as :
- Non mouse control and hardware acceleration of the HTML5 enabled browser
- Multimedia player supporting Pay-TV class protection, Broadcast and Smooth streaming
- Support of Broadcast and pushed content by generic video pipe line such as GStreamer
- Local, Broadcast and Cloud based Mutimedia asset management for Electronic program guide (EPG)
- Device remote management
- Security framework
Once the concept clarified, we will explain who compose the team currently involved in the MeeGo TV project and what are their domain of activity. We will present how the high requirement of localisation imposed by various regulations and broadcast legacy is used by the MeeGo TV team to create opportunities for industry to create a business model which can also profit to the Open Source community while accelerating the penetration of MeeGo in the TV world.
We will concluded by presenting in which areas we believe that the MeeGo TV project can offer added value to other MeeGo verticals in a short and medium term and why we think that it would be to your benefit to join some of our working projects.
